Video Transcript for Let’s Check Out the CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting Round Trailer Axles

Speaker 1: Today, we'll be having a look at the CE Smith line of U-bolt mounting kits for mounting round trailer axles. Here's what our kit comes with. It's everything you need for replacing the U-bolts on a single axle on your trailer. We have 4 new U-bolts, you'll have 2 per side; 2 new plates, 1 per side; 8 new lock washers, you'll be using 4 for each side of the trailer; and 8 new nuts, again 4 for each side of the trailer. You can see how well our U-bolts grip around the contours of our axle. This'll keep the axle firmly attached to our leaf springs, so we don't have to worry about it slipping and sliding. Now because we have the zinc and the galvanized finish on our plate and our hardware, this will better protect them from corrosion from the elements, especially salt spray. It's not an issue if you decide to use them on a boat trailer such as this one.Now many of our customers have had to make a second phone call or send an email to us after they bought a new axle for their trailer because they found, once they tried to remove the old one or put the new one on, that they couldn't get their factory U-bolts off.

They had to cut them off, and now they're searching for a replacement. This kit will be a perfect solution for this problem here. Now many of our customers compared these to the Redline line of U-bolt kits. Now the main difference you're going to see between this one and those is that those do not have the galvanized or the zinc finish on the plates or the hardware, which will cause them to rust out faster. As you can see, we already have our new axle sitting on top of our leaf springs. Now this kit could work for an axle that sits on top or below your leaf springs. It works for both applications.

You don't need to worry if yours resides below, you can still use this kit for that. We'll start by taking our new U-bolts and dropping them over our axle on either side of our leaf spring. Now we'll take our new plate. We want to make sure that this flange right here faces down, this hole here in the center lines up with the alignment pin on our leaf spring, and we'll insert our U-bolts through the holes. Place on our lock washers, and we'll put that on our nuts. Now we can start to tighten our hardware, making sure we tighten them evenly as possible. Now we'll torque our hardware again, making sure we alternate to ensure that we're doing it as evenly as possible. And that completes our look at the CE Smith line of U-bolt kits for mounting round trailer axles..

  • Option For Replacing 3,500 lb Axle Part Number AADULE359582
Thanks for getting in touch, Stanley. The part number AADULE359582 you provided indicates a 3,500 lb axle with a 95" hub face and 82" spring center. We offer a 5,200 lb replacement for this, the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 95" Long - 5,200 lbs # e63GR. This axle has spring seats pre-welded at 80", so they will need to be removed and have new spring seats # TRSS300 welded on at 82". This axle tube is 3" in diameter so you will need new U-bolts such as part # CE23003....

  • What Parts Do I Need To Upgrade From 3,500 lb Axle To 5,000 lb Axle?
Hello Jbryan, thanks for reaching out. I can certainly point you in the right direction. There are a few things we will want to look at here in order to be sure you get the right parts. Mainly I will need to know the hub face length and spring center length of the current axle. It is possible to upgrade the capacity, but the new axle will need to be identical in length to the current axle. For example, the Trailer Axle Beam # e55GR is 89" long overall and has a 74" spring center as you...

  • Replacement Axle for 2018 Grand Design Imagine 2150RB
Grand Design lists an 86-1/2" 3,500 lb axle for your Imagine 2150RB. The next size up would be a 5,200 lb axle like the # e45GR. This has the same 86-1/2" hub face measurement but the spring seat is different. You will need to cut off the spring seats and weld on # TRSS300 to match your current 68-1/2" measurement. The CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5.2K to 7K, Round Trailer Axles # CE23003 will be required as well. For a hub and drum assembly you can use the # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K. These...

Hey Jacob, To replace the 7k slipper springs from your Roadmaster Comfort Ride system you'll need part # RM75EQ. As with any leaf spring suspension if you replace one you'll need to replace the others as well so you'll need four of these. If you remove the two lower bolts from the slipper spring box that should be enough to get the springs out and then you can remove the eyelet bolts on the other side. Since you'll be removing the U-bolts to swap out the springs you'll want to also...

  • Recommended U-Bolt Kit For 7k Round Trailer Axles
Hey Rob, A 7k axle would have a 3" diameter tube so the CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5.2K to 7K, Round Trailer Axles # CE23003 would be the correct fit. These kits are for one axle each so you'll need to purchase one for each axle on your trailer.

  • Looking For Dexter Axle, Brakes, Hubs And Leaf Springs For RV
Hello Brent, thanks for reaching out. We do have the hubs and brakes for Dexter 7K axles, but I am sorry to say we do not offer an axle that matches your specifications. We currently offer only two sizes of 7K axle, a 94" or 95" hub face. We can provide brakes, hubs and a suitable replacement for the leaf spring. • What Leaf Spring do I Need for My Dexter Axle with Weight Rating 4,400 Pounds?
Hello Doug, Great question, and I am happy to make sure we get you into the right leaf spring. Since there is not a real standard for putting trailers together I am going to need a measurement from you. I need you to measure the Leaf Spring as unloaded as possible from eye to eye (please see attached image). Once I get that measurement from you I can recommend the right spring. Hello Chris, We have exactly what you are looking for and it looks like you already found it, our etrailer 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles - 26" Long # e94SR will work as a great replacement to Dexter's part number 072-097-02. Whenever you change out your leaf spring it is recommended to change out the u-bolts as well anyway because they do stretch over time, for the U-bolt kit you will want # CE23003. Hello Paul, Happy to get the right parts to upgrade your suspension on your 2005 Challenger 5th wheel 29rpk. I do not have a database that supplies me with what is put on what 5th wheel, so you are going to need to double check a couple of measurements. Hello Steve. Thank you for emailing me the picture of your suspension, as they are always most helpful. Leaf springs have the tendency to stretch out over time which does not give us an accurate measurement, so with your leaf springs measuring at 26" eye to eye I suggest you go with our 5-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long # e34SR. • Looking For Leaf Springs For 2021 Grand Design Momentum 397Th With 7,000 lb Axles
Hello Michael, thanks for reaching out. We do carry leaf springs for 7,000 lb axles, but there is no way to look up your camper to know exactly what spring you will need. RV manufacturers just are not that specific with their online literature. The main thing I will need to know is the length of the current leaf springs. It is best to jack up one side of the trailer so you can measure the spring without a load. Leaf springs are measured across from center eye to center eye. Also note...

This comes completely loaded with electric brake assemblies and 6 on 5-1/5" hub/drum assemblies. The only drawback of this axle is the spring seats come pre-welded at 71-1/2". • Can Leaf Springs Be Replaced With Higher Capacity Springs And Parts Needed For Replacement
You can replace your lower rated leaf springs with a higher capacity spring with the same dimensions, but your trailer will ride much stiffer. Adding higher capacity springs will not add more to your trailer's capacity so you'll want to still stick to your trailer's current limitations. Since you'll be removing the U-bolts to swap out the leaf springs it's recommended to replace them as well. For a 3" diameter axle you'll need U-Bolt Kit # CE23003.

Yes, you'd just need to reach out to a qualified welder and have them weld on spring seats like part # TRSS300 to the top side of the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles # e45GR. It's super common to do for people who have an underslung setup and want to raise the height of the trailer. When you remove the old axle you'll also want to replace the u-bolts with ones like part # CE23003 since they get stretched when torqued down and shouldn't be reused.
