Speaker 1: Today, we'll be having a look at the CE Smith line of U-bolt mounting kits for mounting round trailer axles. Here's what our kit comes with. It's everything you need for replacing the U-bolts on a single axle on your trailer. We have 4 new U-bolts, you'll have 2 per side; 2 new plates, 1 per side; 8 new lock washers, you'll be using 4 for each side of the trailer; and 8 new nuts, again 4 for each side of the trailer.You can see how well our U-bolts grip around the contours of our axle. This'll keep the axle firmly attached to our leaf springs, so we don't have to worry about it slipping and sliding.Now because we have the zinc and the galvanized finish on our plate and our hardware, this will better protect them from corrosion from the elements, especially salt spray. It's not an issue if you decide to use them on a boat trailer such as this one.Now many of our customers have had to make a second phone call or send an email to us after they bought a new axle for their trailer because they found, once they tried to remove the old one or put the new one on, that they couldn't get their factory U-bolts off.
They had to cut them off, and now they're searching for a replacement. This kit will be a perfect solution for this problem here.Now many of our customers compared these to the Redline line of U-bolt kits. Now the main difference you're going to see between this one and those is that those do not have the galvanized or the zinc finish on the plates or the hardware, which will cause them to rust out faster.As you can see, we already have our new axle sitting on top of our leaf springs. Now this kit could work for an axle that sits on top or below your leaf springs. It works for both applications.
You don't need to worry if yours resides below, you can still use this kit for that.We'll start by taking our new U-bolts and dropping them over our axle on either side of our leaf spring. Now we'll take our new plate. We want to make sure that this flange right here faces down, this hole here in the center lines up with the alignment pin on our leaf spring, and we'll insert our U-bolts through the holes. Place on our lock washers, and we'll put that on our nuts.Now we can start to tighten our hardware, making sure we tighten them evenly as possible. Now we'll torque our hardware again, making sure we alternate to ensure that we're doing it as evenly as possible.And that completes our look at the CE Smith line of U-bolt kits for mounting round trailer axles..

U-Bolts are a little long but did go on fine.
I would have given these the highest rating because the product is excellent. The reason for just an average rating is solely because of the customer service or rather lack of customer service. I placed the order for this and 2 additional items to replace the entire suspension on a Passport 3350BH. All items were in stock when order was placed on 1/31/2022 with a delivery date of 02/03/2022. There was a snow storm on 02-03 which delayed the item to the following week which is understandable. However it continued to be delayed until the following week. After my first call I was told the storm had caused a delay. I asked why my order was in a gathering stage for days and then changed to back to order accepted, only response was the snow had slowed them down. After another week of no order, I sent 2 emails with just a standard response of blaming a snow storm 2 weeks prior. I asked several questions on my order which were never answered, I’d have to assume that they just didn’t care to answer or it’s a general email they send to everyone. Long story short the order came on 02/19 which is completely unexceptionable based on a 3 day original ship date. Hard to explain to a customer that a snow storm that we had as well pushed the ship date out 16 days on in stock items.
The new set of springs seem just fine after a year of use. A set of 4 of these springs replaced the OEM springs after an equalizer failure bent one spring. The new springs appear to be more substantial than the OEM springs. All 4 had the same eye to eye spacing, so I didn't worry about tire wear from misalignment just because I replaced the springs. The OEM springs were about 6 years old and had flattened some. I had no installation difficulties. I did replace the nylon bushings with bronze bushings along with a set of wet bolts. The hardest part of the spring replacement job was identifying exactly which OEM spring was installed.
Great customer service...received product as promised. I have outfitted my trailer to organize and carry all my construction tools for building and remodeling. The springs are a noticeably stiffer than the smaller factory springs I had on trailer; however , that’s what I intended to get by upgrading.
I have every confidence that these won’t break like the cheapass factory springs Stealth put on their 14’ enclosed trailer. (No, I didn’t overload the trailer—the original springs failed due to the very thin metal and fatigue.)
(CSR) was the one who helped us and if I could have left zero stars I would’ve. We walked through all of the specs of our trailer to put new suspension on our trailer. We were missed informed by (CSR) on what would work on our trailer. Now all the parts have been delivered and we have to return EVERYTHING because none of it will work for the trailer we have. We expressed to (CSR) how important it was to not only get these parts quickly but that we had to get the trailer running as quickly as possible. We are very disappointed in the service we received from him and his lack of knowledge. I think some training is needed on his part so that this doesn’t happen to another customer.
They are u bolts. They hold the axles in place. A year later they still hold the torque. So they haven't stretched.

These U-Bolts along with the 4 leaf springs have worked out for me great. It has been a year since I put them on the trailer and I have traveled many miles with them at this point with no issues. etrailer has always had the parts I need for my trailer and given me the best customer support.

Springs arrived after a couple of days. I have never had an item better packed! Springs fir my trailer no modifications as well as U bolts. I wish I had thought to get new hanger bolts as these will be needed. Do not order your springs without new shackle hanger bolts!

It was fine. The u bolts where what I needed. The price was ok for what I was looking for. What the description doesn't tell you is that it is for 1/3/4" wide leaf springs. The description on the package says " fits 3" round axle with 1/3/4 wide leaf springs". So I reused my bottom plate and moved on.

I'm glad that you were still able to use the U-bolts, Mark. I double checked our info for the kit and under features it stats "2 U-bolt plates for 1-3/4" springs". It's kind of in an odd place since it's not under specs so can be easily missed. I do apologize that the info was in a weird spot.

Very heavy duty - grade 8 Checked torque and zero movement - nuts stayed tight! Use the proper U-Bolt kit for your needs.
I have not recieved the leaf spring or the couplers
The u-bolts and plates are of excellent quality. Bolts are yellow cadmium plated and the plates are hot dip galvanized. The fit was perfect, no issues at all during assembly.
